People are really inconsiderate sometimes. I know that's kind of a crap explanation, but it's just the truth. I think that when people find out something as serious as your OCD they don't know how to respond. I was diagnosed at 18, but was clinically OCD for much longer. I remember that when I first told people I got the same response. "Oh, I must be too, because I clean alot, I can't stand messes" I felt like yelling "NO! Do you turn the light switch off and on to make sure that your day is going to be alright? Do you feel like the world is going to end and it will be all your fault because you didn't check the time fifteen thousand times? Part of me would like to believe that they're just trying to make you feel better by simplifying it with those comments, but I know that it doesn't help.

All that I can say is seek help and try to educate the people around you that you care about so that they get it, or at least get a little bit more of it. Good luck and let me know if you need any help/support because I've been there and still kind of am.

Also, just know that you are not alone and it does get better with help! Good luck!

I am so glad that you asked that question. People say that they have OCD because they want attention. I understand what OCD is, I personally don't have it, but I know what it consists of. My sister in law is always claiming that she has OCD, but she has no idea. I hate it when she says "oh I'm OCD because when my house is dirty, I have to clean it". I'm like dude, OCD is like when you wash your hair, you have to put exactly 13 pumps of shampoo no more no less. If you screw it up, you have to do it all over again until its right. I try to explain to her, but she still insists. She likes to be the center of attention all the time, so that my friend is why people say they have OCD. To be "cool" to be the center of attention... They are so dumb...

I know exactly what you mean. All of my friends thinks its "cool" to act like they have OCD or some other sort of mental disorder. They could be a total slob then go "oh i have OCD!" then being organizing things. They don't understand that having OCD just isn't organizing but is obsessive thoughts, germs, fears ect...
I just tell them that if they really had it they would most likely be getting help for it and they are just "no I have OCD I'm sure of it."
I'm not really sure if I have OCD. I have some of the symptoms like the obsessive thoughts and I have some compulsions like folding things into neat squares and writing neatly and I'm pretty paranoid but some of my friends think that they have OCD because their house is a mess?

society portrays OCD as being very meticulous with cleaning mostly or by paying attention to detail. I am a pych major and you would be blown away how many people are not aware of what ocd really is and the stress as well as how time consuming it can be.

No one can possibly know what your going through unless they have it themselves. Ignore them, they don't know what you have to deal with. Explain to them that they don't know the full extent of it, because they could never possibly know what hardships your working with.
Good luck :D
